Pastor G. Duane Johnson begins work as Pastor/Developer and visits over 5,000 homes announcing the beginning of a new church. 7 individuals form a Steering Committee: (1) Larry Kumbier, (2,3) Lee and Richard Wheeler, (4) Bill Woolston, (5) Jean Irwin, (6) Walter Ford and (7) Barbara Mayer

Hold 1st first worship service at a local YMCA. with 121 present. Superintendent Jim Hamilton begins Sunday school classes. Gloria Dei Lutheran Church is officially recognized as self-sustaining congregation – 128 persons sign charter roll. Install Pastor Johnson as Pastor of GDLC.

Break ground at 1333 Beltline Road for construction of the first unit.

| 1984 |
Hold festive celebration and dedicate of the first unit. This adds additional 6300 feet of space, providing a multi-purpose worship area, classrooms and an office. |

| 1991 |
Groundbreaking for the new education/fellowship building, added parking facilities, and an expanded office area. Perform dedication rites after completion of this expansion. |

| 1995 |
Name the education/fellowship building "Johnson Hall" in honor of Pastor and Jan Johnson. After 16 years of work with Gloria Dei, Pastor Johnson begins retiring. Pastor Bernard Kern serving as interim until 1996 |

Install Pastor Charles H. Hubbard, Jr. as pastor of GDLC congregation.

2001
|
Gloria Dei Nights Coffee Haus opens its doors as a community outreach project.

2002
|
In conjunction with Garland ISD, weekly ESL Classes open as a community outreach project. The response is so overwhelming that we run out of space, but the program continues at another - larger - location.

| 2003 |
Begin revamping church grounds to lower water use.

| 2004 |
Dei-Light Celebration Band begins playing modern selections in addition to traditional music; this evolves into a 2nd, more contemporary, service. |

2005
|
Gloria Dei celebrates 25 years of mission and ministry to the Garland area.
|

| 2007 |
Thrust towards stewardship results in refinancing mortgage and changing water use of church-grounds. Community outreach efforts see installation of labyrinth, garden seating areas and permanent basketball court on parking lot. |
