How are our lives built on grace? Also, how have you seen God’s grace at work in your life?
In this week’s gospel reading we see Jesus speaking to the people of the community. The scribes question who he says he is and even call him Satan. His family even wants to “restrain” him because people are saying, “he has gone out of his mind.” Wow, even his own family is worried he is saying too much.
But Jesus says as he looks at the people gathered around him, “Here are my mother and my brothers! 35Whoever does the will of God is my brother and sister and mother.” In other words, my people, my family are here. Jesus extends grace to those around him.
There are no special requirements to be Jesus’ “mother, brother or sister.” You are welcome into God’s family. Jesus has made that possible. Jesus reminds us that no one will restrain him and God’s grace will not be constrained. You are loved no matter what. So what would it look like if we built our lives knowing that God’s grace (unconditional love) is extended to us every day?
