The scars say it all don’t they? Take a moment to take a mental inventory of your bodily scars. With each scar you have a memory. Some of those scars remind us of a funny memory. Like that time when I was a kid and I got my first pocket knife. My dad told me to be careful and never cut towards yourself. Then I proceeded to cut towards myself and slice into my finger. It was off to the hospital for stitches.
Other scars we’d rather forget. In the movie “JAWS” there is a great scene when Chief Brody, Hooper and Quint are comparing their scars. It’s pretty funny until it turns serious and Quint tells about his experience being on the U.S.S. Indianapolis. 1100 men go into the water and many are taken by sharks. Quint is haunted by the memory.
You and I have scars too. Some of them we’d like to forget. In today’s gospel, Jesus shows the disciples his scars. Jesus’ scars are a reminder of what God has done for us in Christ. Hear the rest of the message on YouTube.
